What the actual fuck, Florida? The Charlotte County School District, to be precise.
We know Florida has their “Don’t Say Gay” bill and is full of hate for anyone not Christian and not heterosexual. This shouldn’t be any kind of surprise.
Superintendent Vianello, bully, has issued “guidance” to the district that “all books with LGBTQ characters are to be removed even if the book contained no sexually explicit content.“
That’s quite a lot of books being figuratively burned for as little as the text “Tom’s husband” existing in them. A goodly amount of Greek literature would disappear if memory serves. Anne Rice, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, V.C. Andrews, and a hundred thousand other authors are going to have books that, through some miracle of reality, simply won’t exist in Florids’s Charlotte County schools.
No exaggerating – his words were that books with “[t]hese characters and themes cannot exist.“
This includes books in the library, assigned reading, and students will not be allowed to bring these books into the classroom even if they’re self-selected for silent reading.
It seems the district idiots feel that a book containing a queer character or mentioning a non-heterosexual relationship are seen as “how to” manuals for how to be an LGBTQ+ person.
The district defines bullying as being intentional, unprovoked, reoccurring, and between entities with a difference in physical or psychological power. That certainly sounds like what’s happening – emotional assault on people on purpose, repeatedly over time, by an authority, without provocation – well.
Fuck you, Charlotte County School District, and fuck you too Florida.
P.S. Your bully reporting page seems to be broken right now; I guess it’s not very important to you.
